Last week we heard from who women who said they wouldn’t mind having a husband if they didn’t have to live with him.
It seems there’re like-minded women across the country, and these resourceful ladies have found a solution to the conundrum. They’re marrying incarcerated men, serving long term sentences.
Erik and Tammi Menendez
Erik Menendez has been married since 1999 to a woman who wrote him a letter in prison. Brother Lyle, married and divorced one pen pal, and then went on to marry another.
Then there’s Phil Spector, the rock and roll promoter with wild and crazy hair. In 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years for the murder of a former girlfriend. Aspiring singer Rachelle Marie Short married him shortly after his arrest.
Even the most heinous murderers appeal to some women. Serial killers John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy both had committed relationships before they were executed.
There’re almost 1.5 million males in state and federal prisons, according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, which must strike some husband-seekers as happy hunting grounds.
Finding an inmate boyfriend is not as difficult as it might sound. A number of prison-rights groups encourage letter-writing to help the incarcerated make contact with the outside world. Go to www.prisoninmatepenpal.com or www.writeaprisoner.com for more info.
And, of course, there’s an actual dating site, www.meet-an-inmate.com, where a prisoner can post his photo, bio and earliest release date.
I was particularly attracted to Daniel, 53, who’s serving a life sentence with parole. He’s 5’9″, 180 pounds and doesn’t smoke. On the plus side, he loves animals, listening to music and watching sunsets. On the negative, he could get out in 2022.
I’d love to hear what you have to say on this topic
